How do I connect directly to my device via LAN cable?

This article explains how to connect to Local access mode with a direct LAN connection between your device and a PC.

If you need to reconfigure your device's communications settings, but your device is not on a LAN where you can directly access it, then you can connect a cable directly between your device and a PC/laptop.

To do this you must first know the IP address used by LAN 1:

  • Out of the box the device will fall back to 192.168.10.1 if it doesn't receive a DHCP address

  • You can have manually reconfigured it previously - if so, you must know these details to proceed.

Steps:

  1. Power your encoder - allow it 2 minutes to power up.

  2. Connect your PC's LAN port directly to the LAN 1 port on your device.

  3. Reconfigure your PC's LAN port to the following settings:

    • IP Address: 192.168.10.10*

    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

    • Gateway: leave blank

    • DNS: leave blank

  4. Open your web browser and enter http://[Device IP Address]/ (so for example http://192.168.10.1/ if using the default settings). This should take you to your device's Local access mode login page.

* If you've manually assigned a static IP address already, then use another IP address in the same subnet range as the device's IP address.
