How do I connect my device to a LAN network?

A walkthrough of how to connect your device using a broadband connection

Updated over a week ago

Automatic network configuration

Your device is configured to automatically connect to a standard LAN connection. If you provide your device with a LAN connection with these parameters:

  • A network that provides attached devices a DHCP address

  • At least 500 kbit/s upload to the internet (per device)

Then you do not have to perform any further configuration.

To confirm:

  1. Connect your device (using a LAN cable plugged into LAN 1) into to your network switch.

  2. Power your device

  3. Wait a few minutes to allow the device to power and initiate a connection

  4. Log into the web app and check if your device appears

Manually configuring network settings

If you have specific network requirements (e.g. your network uses static IP addresses) you can use Local access mode to configure your LAN connection.

The first step is to obtain your device's IP address.

By default your device's LAN 1 port will attempt to connect to a DHCP server on your LAN network.

  1. If it succeeds your device will be given an address from your DHCP pool. Normally this would also provide an internet connection and you can obtain its IP address from the web app. No further configuration would be necessary.

However, if your device receives a DHCP address but still can't connect to the internet, you will need to ask an IT administrator for assistance obtaining its IP address. It may be simpler to unplug your device from the network, re-power the device, and follow the instructions in the next section.

  2. If it does not receive a DHCP connection it will default to 192.168.10.1 on LAN 1. You can continue with the next section to configure your device.

Connecting your laptop/PC directly to your device

These instructions are for instances where your device isn't connected to a network with DHCP, and your device has defaulted to 192.168.10.1.

  1. Connect your PC's LAN port directly to the LAN 1 port on your device.

  2. Reconfigure your PC's LAN port to the following settings:

    • IP Address: 192.168.10.10

    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

    • Gateway: leave blank

    • DNS: leave blank

  3. You should now be physically set up to connect to local access mode.
