How do backup communications work for my device?

Understand more about how communications failover works.

Updated over 3 months ago

Using communications failover to make your communications more resilient, our hardware devices support the configuration of multiple network adaptors when carrying the outgoing communications video data

The available network adaptors will vary, depending on the capabilities of your device. LAN configurations are not available for MiniCam devices.

What communications options will I have?

Depending on the capabilities of your device, you may be able to configure from the following options:

  • LAN

  • Wi-Fi

  • Cellular

How does the failover work?

When you configure more than one outgoing network adaptor, your device will automatically switch between them based on their ability to reach the server.

The order it tries the adaptors follows the order listed above, when it finds a connected adaptor it will continue to use that until it can no longer reach the server.

You can configure any combination of the available adaptors to give you the most resilient setup possible.

Where do I configure this?

This is configured via the device configuration interface, which can be accessed via Local Access Mode.
