How do I configure my device for the first time?

Once your device is online, it's time to start adding your cameras and enabling your video analytics.

Updated over 4 months ago

The first time your device connects to the cloud service, it will automatically let all Administrators know that there is a new device that is ready to receive its initial configuration. You will receive a notification one the Notifications page:

Using the Configure button will start a new device wizard to quickly help you:

  • Give your device a new friendly name
By default the device will use its serial number, but you should give it a more descriptive name that allows your users to identify it by location or purpose.

  • Add your device to a group
All devices must be added a group - this is how you control access to your devices, as only users within that group will be able to interact with your device.

  • Add your camera(s) to your device (Link/Gateway devices only)
You'll need to search for and add the cameras that are available to your device

  • Enable analytics on your cameras
Once you've added a camera you will be able to enable video analytics. This will configure your device to send notifications to the group when a person or vehicle is detected. You'll also be able to set a schedule to turn on/off these alerts at different times.

The first questions you will be asked is to give your device a name, add it to a group, and confirm your notification schedules.

To proceed:

  • Enter a meaningful name for your device

  • If this is your first device, you will not have any groups yet - select Create new group then enter a name for your first group (it can be renamed later if necessary)

  • If you have already setup custom alarm and notification schedules you can untick Use default notification schedules and select your desired schedule. For new users the default schedule is the equivalent of 'Always on' so leave it ticked:

After saving these settings you will be taken to your device's camera configuration page to begin adding your cameras:

These instructions explain how to add a camera (start from Step 4) - repeat these steps for every camera you need to add to your device.

The next step is the to configure the video analytics for each camera. You can decide the types of objects you want to detect (people and/or vehicles) and which areas to observe.

Did you just create your first group while setting up device?

You won't by default receive alerts from this device. To avoid overloading Administrators, notifications are only sent to group members. If you want to receive alerts from this device add yourself to your new group.

When you go back your Notifications page you'll notice that the new device alert has been closed - it will disappear from your feed the next time you refresh.

I missed the 'new device' notification - how do I setup my device?

Don't worry - you can still perform all the above steps manually.
