This option is only available in the Windows app.
The best way to retrieve previously recorded footage is to use the Recordings backups feature that will upload a segment of the original recording (at the original full quality) to the cloud.
However, Windows app users have a second way to store recordings - they can record locally. This will take the incoming video stream being displayed (whether live or from the recordings) and start to transcode this to disk (as MJPEG video stored in a .MOV file).
This can be useful for short recordings, however the video that is recorded:
uses the transmitted video (at a lower quality/frame rate than the original recordings) as the source.
is transcoded in real-time using MJPEG, before being saved to disk. This is a video codec that is not very efficient and will use a large amount of space.
will be split into 1GB files automatically.
Again... we recommend you use the Recordings backup feature as this retains the recording in the original quality and can be performed in the background without keeping the Windows app open.
Steps:
Within the Windows app open the desired video stream:
(Optional) Open recordings at the desired start time
From the Action menu select Start local recording:
The app will begin to record the video on-screen to your PC. A new LOC icon will appear at the top left of your video display:
Once you no longer need to record, select Start local recording from the menu again.
To review the video(s) you have recorded select Show local media from the hamburger menu at the top right of your app:
